How to Say I'm Finished In Bahasa

If you want to ask me about a specific topic or have difficulties with something in the Indonesian language, you can just ask me. You can check it out on the About Me page about that.

Let's begin, shall we?

How to Say I'm Finished In the Indonesian Language

I'm finished can have two meanings. It can mean that you have already finished doing something. But it can also have the meaning of hopelessness as a person faces impending doom.

When you say that you're finished doing something, you can say this in Indonesian.
Saya sudah selesai.
And this is how you pronounce [saya sudah selesai].

[Saya sudah selesai] is the most formal form, and sometimes you will hear Indonesian people drop the letter [s] in [sudah], and it becomes [saya udah selesai]. [Saya udah selesai] is a bit more informal compared to [saya sudah selesai].

This is how you pronounce [saya udah selesai].

To make it more informal, you can say this.
Aku udah selesai.
This is how you pronounce [aku udah selesai].

And you can also say this for a more informal than [aku udah selesai].
Aku udah kelar.
This is how you pronounce [aku udah kelar].

And then, to make it more informal again, you can say this.
Gue udah kelar.
This is how you pronounce [gue udah kelar].

Or, you can drop [udah] and say this.
Gue kelar.
And this is how you pronounce [gue kelar].

Or, you can switch the order of the word, and it becomes this.
Kelar gue.
And this is how you pronounce [kelar gue].

All of them mean I'm finished, in the sense that you have already finished doing something.

Now, let's talk about I'm finished in Bahasa Indonesia, in the sense that you are already finished because something terrible happened to you.

For this, usually Indonesian people say this phrase.
Kelar gue.
But with a different intonation than [kelar gue] when you want to say that you have already finished doing something.

Here is how you pronounce [kelar gue], in a sense, that you are hopeless.

You can also put words between [kelar] and [gue]. For example, you can say this.
Kelar hidup gue.
This is how you pronounce [kelar hidup gue].

It means that,
My life is over.
[Hidup] means life.

Examples of Kelar Gue In Use

In this section, I gather scenes from movies, youtube videos, and whatnot where the phrase I'm finished in Bahasa Indonesia is spoken.

The first scene is taken from a TV series called Suami-suami Masa Kini, Season 1, Episode 1 (2022). Let's watch the scene below.

Below is what he said in the scene with English translations.

Raka: Kelar hidup gue ini. Harusnya 45 menit lagi gue tiup lilin sama Tania. Eh, sekarang malah Tania nganggep gue macem-macem. (I am finished! In 45 minutes, I should have been blowing out the candles with Tania. But now, Tania thinks that I cheated on her.)

In this scene, the four of them are best friends, and they got stuck in the elevator when they were going to Yuda's office to do karaoke. They tried to call for help, but nobody was coming, and that's why then Raka said,
Kelar hidup gue ini.
Because he would have attended Tania's birthday party if the elevator was not stuck like that, and not coming to Tania's birthday party means that she will scold him. Tania is Raka's wife.

Vocabulary From the Scene

[Kelar] = [selesai] = finish.

[Hidup] = life.

[Gue] is informal for [saya] = I. You can read my article, Gue Meaning In Bahasa, for more about this.

[Harusnya] is short for [seharusnya] = should.

[Tiup] = blow.

[Lilin] = candle.

[Sama] = with.

[Nganggep] is the colloquial way of saying [menganggap] = to consider, have an opinion about something.

[Macem-macem] = various thing. But in this context, [nganggep macem-macem] means to have a bad opinion about someone.

So, I guess this wraps up today's article, and if I find another example where this phrase, which means I'm finished, Insha Allah, I will update this article again.
